About the Recipe

Our current favorite! These make a great side to dinner and reheat well! We've tried cheese and bacon mixed in and even enjoy them as a make ahead grab and go breakfast!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour

  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder

  • 1 stick of salted butter, Cold! (if your butter is unsalted simply add salt)

  • Pinch of Salt

  • 1 Cup Buttermilk or Milk

  • 1 Cup mix in's of your choice (you can use shredded cheese, chopped herbs, fried bacon bits, cooked ground sausage, get creative! Just make sure all ingredients are COLD!

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees

  2. in a big bowl combine flour, salt and baking powder

  3. Integrate the butter, work fast and keep it cold! You can pop the bowl in the freezer for a minute if your butter starts melting. I like to use a cheese grater to quickly grate the whole stick of butter in, then I just distribute the butter with my fingers quickly. Some folks prefer using a pastry dough cutter for this.

  4. Add any mix ins if desired and distribute evenly

  5. add the COLD milk in a little at a time while stirring the mix, it should begin clumping together and be a very stiff lumpy dough, dont worry about dry patches.

  6. Loosely form 7 dough balls, don't squish or pack it tightly, and place them in your baking dish, the butter in the biscuits will prevent sticking

  7. Bake 20-25 minutes until the tops just start to brown
