When it comes to learning new skills, study is vital! I love reading books, listening to podcasts, watch Youtube videos and even just following other gardeners on Instagram to see what they're up to. Below I have 6 podcasts i want to recommend to you, all are free to listen to on Spotify and most of them also create content on Youtube and Instagram!

  • Pantry Chat by 'Homesteading Family'

    • Caroline and Josh live on 40 acres in Idaho with their 11 children. They grow and prepare most of the food they consume. Topics include gardening, animal husbandry, non-toxic living, expert interviews, herbal medicine as well as topics on how finances and economy issues work into their lifestyle. They often start the pod with a quick update as to what's been keeping them busy, sharing insights along the way. They are also active on youtube!

  • The Homegrown Podcast by Liz Haselmeyer

    • If you're ready to open your eyes to the toxins we live in, buckle up! Liz is fierce and knowledgeable, breaking down the harsh truths of the food industry and how you can live a low-toxin lifestyle, even if you live in the suburbs. Her and her Husband Joey share their journey, interview experts and break down health topics. Liz also has several resources on their website about understanding whole foods as well as homeschooling. Liz and Joey are also active on Instagram!

  • Pioneering Today by Melissa K Norris

    • Mellissa is a 5th generation homesteader, sharing topics on self-sufficiency, home cooking, non-toxic living, foraging, interviews, animal husbandry, very similar to Pantry Chat! She is cheerful and her passion is inspiring!

  • Garden Culture by Bailey Van Tassel

    • Bailey, who recently moved to TN from SoCal, is an experienced home gardener, garden designer, author and garden club founder. Topics include small space gardening in pots and raised beds, permaculture, interviews, suburban homesteading and living a garden-inspired life. Recently she's also shared several episodes about her move, lessons from her last garden and the start of her new garden. I've had the pleasure of collaborating with Bailey in my career, she is truly a gem! Also active on Instagram!

  • Encyclopedia Botanica by Hilary Dahl

    • I cannot rave enough about this podcast! Its probably my all time top! Its recently producing new episodes after a long several-year hiatus and I am thrilled! For those interested in gardening I recommend scrolling all the way back and listening to this one from the start, its worth it! Hilary is a fantastic speaker with a calming voice and explains plant science in a way anyone can grasp. Topics include all the major garden crops, common issues and how-to's. Hilary is a part of Seattle Urban Farm Co, which creates beautiful edible gardens in the city! Keep in mind gardening in the Pacific Northwest can look a little different compared to our sunny valley but the major concepts remain. Great start for beginners and also for more experienced gardeners to understand why certain practices are done. Find Seattle Urban Farm Co on Instagram.
